Texas Association of
Student Assistance Professionals
TASAP is a non profit association formed to support and serve the
SAP professionals in Texas.
Anticipated
Outcomes of the SAP
Recognized as
an identification and intervention program, the SAP is effective
in several key areas. The SAP has a direct impact on the grades,
attendance, and behavior of the identified student. Tracking should
provide evidence of grades improving, better attendance, and more
appropriate classroom behavior. The SAP should also have an impact
on the overall school. For example, the SAP should result in the
overall number of discipline, drug, alcohol, and weapons violation
to decline. In addition, attendance and drop out rates are positively
affected, as are teacher turnover rates.
How
Do We Start The SAP?
The most effective
way to implement the SAP is to recruit your Core Team and schedule
on-site training. As previously mentioned, the composition of the
team varies, but a good sample includes:
Campus administrator
Guidance Counselors
School Nurse
Classroom Teachers
Coach
Special Education Representative
504 Coordinator
Scheduling The Training The role of
TASAP is to:
Provide a forum for sharing resources that promote the development
of effective SAPs throughout the state.
Promote the highest quality SAP training and program standards,
at the state, regional, and local level.
Advocate for increased local, state, and federal support for efforts
designed to assist youth in at-risk situations
